What is the average yearly maintenance cost for a Lexus or BMW?

April 12th, 2010

Any Lexus or BMW owners who can tell me how much they spend per year on maintenance costs? I can’t decide which brand to buy out of the 2. This is a huge factor.

Also I plan to buy certified pre owned if it makes a difference…
I’m looking at Lexus 250h or a hybrid… BMW 325i or the M series.

BMW is offering maintenance on new BMW’s, but I’m not sure about their certifieds. The Maintenace is supposed to be all routine up to 50k miles I think.

How does building a laptop differ from building a computer?

March 9th, 2010

I am familiar with building PC’s, but I am thinking about building myself a laptop during the summer before I head out for college. Is building a laptop any different than building a pc?

Yes, a laptop chassis comes in a variety of sizes, while most desktop PCs are in a case with room to add PCI/PCI-E cards, a variety of cooling methods, optical drives, and/or memory card readers. You don’t have as many customizable options in a laptop, for example, there aren’t too many choices for graphics cards in a laptop. You also need to worry about the internal heat, certain CPUs run hotter, certain RAM chips may run hotter, hard drives, etc.

How would I find a warehouse/building in the UK where I could build a private skate park?

March 6th, 2010

I want to build a private skate park. If money wasn’t an object, how would I go about finding a building for it to be built in?

1st i would ask a local council if they have any where and state that it would bring the kids away from the streets,.

What kind of scientific research that depends on a vague question like this?

How much would maintenance cost on a 2003 mitsubishi lancer oz rally?

February 12th, 2010

I have to do a budget analysis for my math class and it is asking me how much would maintenance be for a year on your transportation. I am planning on buying a used 2003 mitsubishi lancer oz rally in the future so on average, how much would maintenance cost?

The Lancer requires Spark Plug replacement every 15,000 miles, an Oil Change every 3,500 miles, a Coolant Flush and Transmission Fluid Flush at 30,000 mile intervals and a Timing Belt at 60,000 miles. Figure out how much those services cost locally and add er’ up.

What is the best way to maintain a low maintenance putting green?

February 2nd, 2010

I want to create a putting green in my front yard in a bare (mostly sunny) spot. Also, I’d prefer no "manicuring" besides the obvious low cutting when I want to use it, so no fertilizer, excess weed killing, or aerating.

A local seed shop recommended zoisha or centipede. I would like to know if anyone has experience using these breeds intentionally (as in not the people who consider these breeds as weeds in their lawns), and what types of maintenance I absolutely have to do with them. Thanks ahead!

Why dont you just get a fake green? No maintenance at all.

How much would the maintenance of a husky cost?

January 25th, 2010

how much would the general maintenance of a siberian husky cost?

grooming etc.
would it be alright if i ran say 45 mintues to an hour and a half a day with him or would that be considered to much (i live in florida so its warmer here that why im asking,i know there runners)

im just curious cause im an athlete. and im planning on buying one.ive wanted one for the longest time. i need a companion.=)

Hot weather, cold weather…huskies are very well adapted to all kinds of temps and will do just fine in Florida. I’m pretty sure you live in an air conditioned house which will be just fine for them. On really hot, humid days I keep mine in most of the day except to go to the restroom and we do our daily walks in the evening when it is much cooler. They are trainable, but can be stubborn so you really need to stick to the training. They are escape artist. Make sure you have a high enough fence and no openings they can slip through. Also, they like to hunt small animals. Mine has gotten a hold of several squirrels and birds through the years. When they are not blowing their coats, they don’t really need excessive daily grooming. They really do not shed that much during that time. Now, they do "blow their coats" about twice a year. Now this is shedding. I mean a lot of hair. This is the time I really spend time brushing him. I also take him to the groomers at this time and they "vacuum" some of the excess hair off. They are very lovable and loyal pets. It’s a good thing that you are an athlete too. They are active dogs and require exercise or they can become destructive. I wouldn’t trade mine in for the world.

What can maintenance procedures are immediately done when a bird is ingested in an Airbus 319 engine?

January 25th, 2010

Hello! I am presently research on the maintenance procedures done if a bird damages three or more blades inside the turbofan of an Airbus 319. It’s similar to an accident that happened in our country, fortunately, the plane landed safely. Anyway, can anyone provide insights on what is to be done to repair the "broken" blades? What good references can be used for the procedures done? Will NDT be involved? Thanks!

The 319 has CFM56 engines hanging on it, but the basics pretty much apply to all jet engines. FIrst, what is the flight crew write-up pertaining to the strike? If the engine didn’t have unusual vibrations, didn’t have a compressor stall, and the EGT (exhaust gas temp) were all normal, they probably would only have to do a visual inspection of the fan and core engine/splitter area (area separating the bypass air from the core air). An exhaust inspection would also be performed. They may be required to borescope (internal view of some compressor stages performed through some borescope ports in the compressor case using a fiberoptic view of the internals) Examine the VBV’s (variable bleed valves) looking for damage or evidence of birds. If all looks, good, perform an engine power/acceleration run and return the engine to service. If any damage is found along the way, the fan blades could be replaced, as necessary, or if internal damage is found to any compressor rotor or stator blades, they could possibly get continue in service authorization with repetitive borescopes or worse case scenario, the engine would have to come off. The procedures are pretty much the same for all jet engines.

How much does maintenance and repairs cost for a BMW?

January 17th, 2010

Is is true that foreign cars are more expensive when it comes to maintenance and repairs?

Depends on year and model of the car. Typically German auto parts are more expensive than Asian or American parts, but if you shop around you can find good reasonable prices for most German parts (autohausaz.com). I own a 1988 & 1989 Mercedes Benz 300SE (W126) and I find most parts are about the same as comparable Asian or American parts. What you pay for in a little price premium you more than make up for quality parts usually made in Germany rather than China. For some of the most expensive major parts, you can always look around for good used parts from ebay, craigslist, and local junkyards. As for labor, as long as you stay away from the dealers/stealers and find a good independent shop or mechanic (my MB mechanic charges me $30.00 an hour), labor costs can also be quite reasonable. If you are really interested in a BMW, do a little research on the internet on the year and model you like and you will find a wealth of free information and advice from fellow enthusiasts.
